This spider has a large, black hairy body
about 36mm long and may be found in sandstone country around the Sydney area. They are
normally nocturnal and during the day retreat into cool cracks between rocks or tunnels
made by some other animal.
Their lair is a tube or funnel-shaped web
which is always horizontal, and never vertical like those of the less-poisonous and
related trapdoor spiders. The mouth of the lair is open at its entrance. This spider is
highly venomous has been responsible for the deaths of several people.
Scary, Huh? In fact the very antithesis of
the friendly folk at Funnel Web Graphic and Design Services. We just chose him as our
mascot because we share our lovely suburban bush-land setting with these furry little
fellows.
And of course, who better to look after your interests on the Web, than a Funnel Web spider ? |
